In association with CICM, the Sydney Short Course in Intensive Care Medicine is a four-day, fully immersive and interactive preparation course targeting the written and clinical components of the CICM Second Part exam.
The first day arms you with the mindset, tips, tricks and structures to nail the different types of written question. You will then sit a practice exam followed by a detailed review of the questions (and your answers) with two College examiners.
From day 2, we target the hot case component of the exam. Simulated cases, rapid-fire ‘hot case drills’ and a session on ‘horror hot cases’ will prepare you for real hot case practice at local hospitals, with expert feedback.
To prepare you for the vivas, you will participate in ‘pause and discuss’, ‘Viva Taskmaster’ and ‘exam conditions’ vivas covering knowledge, radiology, practical, and communication (with professional actors).
All components of the course are calibrated by College examiners so that you are assessed as stringently as you will be in the exam.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Please note: due to overwhelming demand for SSCICM, we have adopted an application process to ensure that we get the most appropriate candidates attending each course.
We prioritise applicants who intend to sit the Part 2 exam within one year of attending the course each June (either the second exam sitting that year, or the first exam sitting the following year).
We also require that applicants have the written support of their Supervisor of Training to sit the exam at their intended sitting date.
Please register your interest below or via our contact form and we will contact you when applications open.
About your registration fee
SSCICM is administered by the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Your registration fee pays for venue hire, catering and some faculty expenses such as travel and parking. Any money left over is held by the College for future Sydney Short Courses and other NSW educational projects at the discretion of the CICM Board.
